Bio

I am a Washington, D.C.-based journalist who lived and worked in Moscow, Russia, for 10 years. I spent six years with The Moscow Times, Russia's leading English-language newspaper, where I worked as a reporter, news editor and managing editor. I've written about everything from chess to crime to capital markets in Russia, and I've reported for Sports Illustrated, Details, The Nation, Foreign Policy, High Times, and Monocle Magazine, among other publications. I was born and raised in Wenatchee, Washington -- "The Apple Capital of the World" -- and saw my dreams of making an NBA roster dashed with an untimely ACL injury in 2012.
